Neckware
One of the earliest forms of adornment, necklaces made of natural shells and stones or bone have been found in ancient grave sites. Prehistoric peoples often used materials such as feathers, bone, shells, and plant matter to create necklaces. By the Bronze Age, metallic neckware had replaced pre-metallic adornments. Necklaces were first depicted in the statuary and art of the Ancient Near East, as well as on the stone carvings of nobility created by the the Maya of Central America and Mexico.
