Aquamarine, bright oceanic blue gem of the Beryl family of gems is a birthstone for those born in the month of March.  Aquamarine has long been associated with the sea and element of water.  In ancient lore, Aquamarine was believed to be the treasure of mermaids and was used by sailors as a talisman of good luck, fearlessness, and protection on the open seas.
