Often called the Evening Emerald, the shimmering, pale green Peridot, an August birthstone, is commonly associated with spirituality and self-expression. It is also believed that the stone has the power to ward away nightmares, bestowing peace and progress in one’s life. The crystals of Peridot are formed deep within the earth’s crust and makes their appearance through volcanic activity. Traces of the olivene gemstone, have been found in ancient Egypt, where in ancient times, it was the primary source of the Peridot. The brilliant green gemstones described to be worn by Queen Cleopatra were originally thought to be Emeralds, but are now considered to have been Peridot instead.
