Part of our prong set Solitaire Ring Collection, a gorgeous Rosecut Opal from Ethiopia inspired the creation of this sleek Sterling ring. Held securely by four prongs, so as to allow as much light into the gem from all angles, the oval gem will glow with different hues shifting with each angle. The triangular facets cut into the Opal enhance the gemstones brilliant color-play, a reflection like lightening in a rainbow.
Opal, derived from the Sanskrit upala, meaning “precious stone,” and later the Greek derivative “Opallios,” meaning “to see a change of color", is a birthstone for those born in the month of October. The gem is believed to enhance the sixth sense, a gemstone of foresight and intuition. Opal is also associated with celebrations for the 14th wedding anniversary.
Gem Care: Ethiopian Opals are "hydrophanes", meaning they are thirsty for liquids and can absorb water if immersed in it, and it can affect the colors in the opal, until they dry out once again. Opals should not come in contact with liquids for long periods of time, or be fully immersed in water such as a bath, pool, or natural waters such as the ocean etc.
**General good rules of thumb for caring for Opal Jewelry:
-Keep Opals away from water and liquids.
-Do Not Expose Your Opals to Extreme Changes in Temperature
-Avoid Liquid Chemicals Around Your Ethiopian Opals
-Never Use an Ultrasonic Cleaner or a Steamer
-Avoid Manual Labor when Wearing Your Opals.
