Labradorite's shifting iridescence has called to us for a long time. We are so happy to see it's popularity rise and find our stone cutters crafting myriad shapes to work with. Originally found in Canada, this striking gem has a rich mythology surrounding its appearance. The indigenous Inuit people of Northern Canada believed the gem was linked to the Aurora Borealis, the fascinating celestial event that occurs in the skies in that part of the world.
As has been passed down, the myth recalls, an Inuit warrior discovered a cave filled with Labradorite. He thought the light was trapped in the stones and brought down his spear to release the Aurora Borealis as we know it now, but as he could not free all the light and so we still have the iridescent gem in the earth.
We patina our silver pieces, adding a rich quality that enhances the glow of the smooth gemstones; subtle elegance. A delicate necklace that packs a velvet-gloved punch.
