The Crescent is one of the oldest symbols known to humanity, seen in graphic depictions from as early as the Babylonian period in Mesopotamia. A symbol embraced by diverse cultures for millennium. The word Crescent is derived from the Latin verb crescere "to grow", meaning waxing or increasing and was originally applied to the form of the waxing moon, luna crescens.  The Crescent is also the symbol used to represent Silver (the metal associated with the moon) in Alchemy, a reflection of clarity, truth and brilliance, all attributes of Silver.

"I create my designs from my drawings combined with close observations of nature and my concepts of adornment. In this case the materials suggest a form, as they call to mind favorite textures and colors from our Forest walks, inspiring the design. I work propelled by a bigger scope of women throughout history, and the role adornment takes in presenting oneself to the world: saying something about yourself without saying a word.."  Teresa de la Guardia, designer, metalsmith
